Ubuntu stuck on black screen with cursor after fresh install

Ubuntu stuck on black screen with cursor after fresh install

Before you link me to anything I have to say that I have tried booting
into GRUB by holding the shift key and it doesn't work. I just go straight
to the black screen like I didn't press anything at all. Anyway...
I have booted with my USB to my "try Ubuntu" setting and can check the
volume I installed Ubuntu and everything seems to be there. I can't find
any issues what so ever regarding the install not happening. It seems to
be all there, it just doesn't boot after install.
My install process goes something like this:
Boot from USB and hit the "Install Ubuntu" option.
Install updates through wifi and also install third party programs.
Name my various user/pass/name options.
Pick my drive. I have a 90GB SSD, a 300GB HDD and a raid 0 600GB drive. I
install on the 90GB SSD.
Install happens. No issues come up.
Prompts for reboot. I reboot.
Reboots to USB asking same questions UNLESS I change boot order in BIOS
from USB to SSD
Blank screen.
My hardware looks like this:
i5 2500k
Asus Maximus Gene IV
nVidia GTX 470
90GB Kingston SSD
900GB total in HDD
Any suggestions? As said above, I have tried to boot into GRUB and it
didn't work. I also should mention I was forced to do a hard reset on the
BIOS earlier today, so the board is probably at factory settings regarding
BIOS. Would really appreciate any and all help.
